When I saw the trailer of Penelope Cruz's new flick named 'Broken Embraces', it reminded me of the old Alfred Hitchcock movies. I'm one of Alfred Hitchcock's big fan and I love his style of film making. What appeals me the most is the unpredictability of his story line. Going back to 'Broken Embraces', it is a Spanish film with English subtitles. It is the story of a man with two identities as a writer and as a director. He loses the love of his life 14 years ago and in the present day, he's trying to live using his second identity as a director. It's the story of treachery, abuse of power and guilt complex. This type of film is considered a noir thriller which used to be very popular back in the 40's and the 50's. The film noir is a stylish Hollywood thriller which deals with sex, betrayal and crime. I would really recommend watching it if you don't mind reading subtitles.
